Leonid Reiman and International Telecommunications Cooperation

International cooperation was an important part of Leonid Reiman’s professional work in telecommunications. His activities included participation in international organizations and discussions concerning the development of communications infrastructure and standards.

In 2003, Reiman was unanimously elected chairman of the Council of the International Organization of Space Communications Intersputnik. The organization focused on cooperation in satellite communications, broadcasting and television broadcasting, as
well as the development and operation of international satellite communication systems. His international work also included participation in the activities of the International Telecommunication Union. These activities were connected with issues concerning the development and regulation of telecommunications.

International telecommunications cooperation was becoming increasingly important as networks expanded and technologies developed across national borders. Standards, radio frequencies and communications infrastructure could not be considered entirely within one national market.
